Gas verses Charcoal/Wood

What Accessories Do I Need For My Grill?

Whether you are out at your grill every chance you get or just like to fire it up for the occasional gathering or holiday, you may have thought about purchasing more accessories for your barbecue needs. With so many out there, however, it’s hard to know which accessories are useful and which ones will just end up sitting in the garage getting rusty.

Here’s a quick breakdown of some of the more popular grill accessories to help you decide which ones are right for you.

  • Grill Brush – A grill brush is one of the most essential items for your grill because it’s the only way to clean the leftover debris from the cooking area. Otherwise the charred bits of food and ash will stick to your next meal – and that doesn’t always taste so good! These come in all kinds of shapes and sizes so you can get the right one for your grill.
  • Tongs – These are also essential for grilling, otherwise you’ll have no way of flipping or removing your meat from the grill! Make sure to get a long pair that is all metal – there are some indoor tongs with rubber on them that shouldn’t be used near a flame.
  • Spatula- These are good for flipping burgers and chicken, especially when they may have stuck to the grill in certain places and can be hard to pick up with tongs. Again, make sure your spatula has a long handle and is made of all metal.
  • Meat Fork- A meat fork is a great tool for holding meats steady (for cutting or testing temperatures) as well as spearing certain meats to remove them from the grill.
  • Thermometer- A meat thermometer will help you determine if your meat is cooked all the way through. You can insert the tip into the thickest part of the meat to see if it’s reached the proper cooking temperature.
  • Wood chips – Whether you like Hickory, Mesquite or other flavors, wood chips are great to add to charcoal grills. They give meat a rich, smoky flavor instead of potentially having the charcoal flavor of the grill.
